Departamento de Potosi, Bolivia
This is the highest point of a wonderful route through the Eduardo Avaroa National Reserve in south-west Bolivia. If the wind gods are having a day off and you’re acclimatized then it’s not a difficult cycle as the surface is fine and the gradients are gentle. The Sol de Mañana geothermal field with its steam pools and boiling mud is located near the pass, off the road.
