Provincia de La Rioja, Argentina
This is the highest point on the magnificent route between Chile and Argentina via Paso Pircas Negras. Coming from the west, the pass is at the end of a very flat section of road which then drops down to the 19th century Refugio Veladero. Cerro Veladero dominates to the north, and there are also views of Bonete, the fourth highest mountain in the Andes. All the climb is on paving and the gradients are gentle.
